How it works
Though it has been around for quite a few years, only recently have most people started to massively adopt VOIP.Â
Basics
To use VOIP and start saving money, as a bare minimum you need a high-speed Internet connection capable of at least 200 kbps upstream as well as downstream. Most cable and DSL Internet service is capable of these speeds, but dialup is not. Even mobile Internet 3G is adequate in most circumstances.
Note that Internet speed is seldom as fast as advertised. Furthermore, kbps or kilobits per second is different from kBps or kiloBytes per second by a factor of 8, as 1 Byte = 8 bits. This often creates confusion. To determine more accurately your line speed, consider using a testing service, such as SpeedTest.net. Try testing at peak hours, which are usually in the evenings, as that is when connectivity suffers most. If your connection is faster than 1Mbps for download and 0.200 Mbps for upload, you are good to go.
If you do have a good Internet connection either at home or on your Smartphone, read possible Usage Scenarios.
To get started, you sign-up for a free account and then you can start to make phone calls as soon as you deposit money into it.
Costs
You do not need a phone number to use our service - you may use the service just like you use a calling card for long distance and overseas calls if you wish. You do need a phone number only if you want to receive incoming phone calls without a computer. You pay using PayPal or your credit card by depositing money into your account. When you talk, the system charges you automatically our very low rates in 6 seconds increments and you can see the charge usually in less than a minute online in your account. There is no long-term contract to sign and you can discontinue service by simply not paying at any time. When your balance reaches a predefined threshold, you will receive an email reminding you to add more money.
