PC and Mac: Softphones (X-ten Lite)

Softphones are programs that can be installed on a PC or Mac and allow you to use your computer as a telephone, through a headset with a microphone connected to your soundcard. Using your VOIP service, you can place phone calls to any landline or mobile phone in the world at our extremely low rates.

We will show the step-by-step setup only for X-Lite free softphone as it is the most widely used and deployed solution and it is also available on other platforms, such as Mac and Linux.

First, you need to download and install X-ten Lite. Please note that version 4, released February 2011, has significantly reduced functionality compared to version 3:

For X-Ten Lite version 4, click on the Softphone menu and choose Account Settings. Fill in your User_ID and Password and enter toronto.ezvoip.co in the Domain field. Enter for the Display name whatever you want to appear in Caller ID when you call somebody (outgoing calls). The number to dial for Voicemail is *97.

On the X-Ten Lite program version 3 (rs, tc), click on the MENU button (on the right of CLEAR and on the left of the green button) or right click somewhere on the phone.

Select System Settings, SIP Proxy, Default. And enter the following info:

Testing the Service

To test the service dial 4443 for an echo test, which is a service which tests the quality / latency of your connection.
